At an early age, John Peterson showed a natural talent for drawing and art. Born and raised on the banks of the Mississippi River, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, he developed an early interest in nature and outdoor pursuits.
Being an avid sportsman, especially waterfowl hunting, his interests turned toward waterfowl and sporting art. Having the Mississippi marshlands so easily accessible, there was an abundance of resource material available.
